Raleigh Sprite, Day 5, or: 'Back on Track'

The frame is primed, but will be on hold for a bit awaiting: decals, final paint selection, buying some big plastic things to hang from the ceiling to prevent dust during application, etc... More details on the process later.

  1. Cool blog. Wondering what you're planning on doing to install a new crank and bottom bracket on the Sprite?

I'm working on restoring a Raleigh Sprite myself and I'm in the air about the best option. I've looked at Sheldon Brown's info on Raleigh 26tpi threading and so forth and I'm not sure if I should just have the bottom bracket re-tapped or take the Phil Wood route.

Any tips, info, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  2. Hi Anon:

I would personally go with the middle route that Sheldon suggested, in which you use the Phil Wood retaining cups, and then the Shimano UN72 cartridge bottom bracket. I've seen them on E-bay for fairly cheap (<$20). Or if you have ~$130 burning a hole in your pocket, go with the complete Phil bottom bracket. Best of luck!
